Entry for Artstorm Contest #12 - flower festivals

Title of this art : Magnayaw ( To Dance)

This illustration is showing a group of street dancers dressed with fresh flowers. These flowers are representing the regional flower for each participant. To name some would be kalachuchi, magnolia, carnation, rose, ilang ilang, makahiya, kampupot. Most of these flowers are local and native to each region joining the street dance. Sometimes there are participants from outside the town or country.

The flower festival event is a week long celebration. There are plenty of activities that the locals and tourists could witness and enjoy. There is street dance competition which is being participated by all the local barangays of the town. The participants wear colorful clothes usually decorated with fresh flowers and they dance joyfully throughout the parade. The participants are usually students from neighboring schools. There are floats made out of fresh flowers too and they come with themes each year: fairies, fantasies, disney, movie, daily life and so on. Again, the number of floats will depend on the number of regions participating as the budget for fresh flowers could be too expensive. Different cultural events are also being hosted for the festival and is not only limited to flowers. There are art exhibits, trade shows, food expo, and so many souvenir booths to check out.

The drawing challenge is only good for 15 minutes. That explains it why the figures lack too much details. Since this is a digital art entry, it is possible to finish it within the specified time limit. I used the brush intended for developing a base color. No more line arts as that will eat up my time. I gave focus on creating the flowers quickly on the dresses of the dancers. a simple swirl or a dot will do the trick in achieving that flower detail. The happy smiling faces and the arms raised up will help achieve that jovial mood and dancing effect I am going for. I also painted a mountain on the background which is heavily covered in fog. That is one of the attraction I find interesting in this festival as it is located on a city above a mountain top.
