Bookworms
This illustration shows a group of young girls inside a library attending their regular meet up for their book club. Each girl is showing different emotions or feelings while doing their favorite thing which is learning by reading and active participation in a quick discussion. One girl is totally hyped, one is drifting away, one is curious , one is excited and the last one is just present. Can you relate to any of these girls? Comment down below. On this particular scene, you will see the girls are taking turns discussing a chosen topic. One is actively presenting while the others are doing their own thing.
The girls are:
Mary Elise , red hair and is hyped
Mary Kim, peach hair and is drifting away
Mary Eglantine, golden yellow hair and is excited
Mary Eugenia, blue hair and is getting curious
Mary MeiMei, dark brown hair and is simply present. Hope you like these girls.
Bookworm being the theme, made me automatically think about learning. I want to illustrate the fun part in learning. I used a group of studious looking characters and injected some funny elements like the girl drifting away. It is not easy trying to learn on your own especially if you are going for the self-taught route. To keep you motivated a helpful support system like your friends virtual or real would be ideal. On this drawing, the girls were given the same first name -- Mary. I think there is some sort of a solidarity in that idea to further describe the support system I mentioned earlier. I also want to show the struggles the girls could experience while being engaged in their favorite activity. If you lack focus you may wander away, or you could just go with the flow and do nothing significant to achieve your goals. On the other hand you can be as enthusiastic as the girl with a red hair. Being excited and or curious will get you to your destination eventually.
For this challenge, I decided to go for flat or 2D drawing to meet the 15 minute period. Too much detail or definition is hardly possible for a novice like me. I thought I would also use lots of flat and basic colors to make up for the lack of details.
