 Jackson Pollock — American artist, ideologue and leader of abstract expressionism, a significant impact on the art of the second half of the twentieth century.  

 

 BIOGRAPHY OF JACKSON POLLOCK
Jackson Pollock was born in Wyoming, he was the youngest of five sons. The first fifteen years of his life the family moved from place to place.
When Paul was eleven, his parents stayed in Arizona. There happened an accident: man cut off his finger.
Pollock studied at the Higher school of applied arts, where he became friends with one of the teachers, Frederick John Swarkowski, who dedicated it to the basics of theosophy.
In 1930, Pollock moved to new York after his brother Charles. Together they studied with Thomas Benton, who was influenced by Pollock, visible in curvilinear undulating rhythms of his paintings, but also to use rural themes.

During the Second world war, new York became the new capital of contemporary art: this city was visited by the artists from occupied Europe; here were held numerous exhibitions devoted to contemporary art. Pollock was very impressed by the exhibition Picasso — "Guernica" presented in 1940 and a retrospective show "Picasso.
Forty years. 1900-1940". European surrealism and the study of the theories of Jung determined by the work of Jackson Pollock in the 1940s. At this time, the artist came the first success. He participated in the exhibition "American and French painting", where he works side by side with works by Picasso, Matisse, Braque and Derain.

In 1943 he held his first solo exhibition.

In his works, Pollock has completely abandoned any connection with reality, trying to Express only his state. He began to enjoy he invented the technique of "dripping" in squeezing and splashing paint from a tube directly onto the canvas. 

In 1950, the magazine "Art News" published a series of photos of Hans Namut, showing Pollock at work that caused a sensation in the world. The artist put on the floor of the workshop spanned by the canvas stretcher with convulsive movements covered it with paints, using brushes, just squeezing paint from the tubes directly onto the canvas.
In 1950, Pollock had a great success at the Venice Biennale. At this time the artist painted such works as "Autumn rhythm," "Purple haze", "Galaxy" and "White light".
Solo exhibition at Peggy Guggenheim made Pollock famous. Visiting one of them in 1945, Clement Greenberg described Pollock as "the strongest painter of the generation and perhaps the greatest, which came after myrrh." In the last few years of his life Pollock and celebrity, and an alcoholic. He began to descend in a spiral, which led to the destruction of the family, hopes for a career. August 11, 1956 Pollock died in a car accident.
