What's up with all the artificial turf? Poor grass is outdated and no longer cool. High School football practice field is fake grass!

in #artificial-grass8 years ago (edited)

I live right next to a high school and I just happened to walk by the football/soccer team practicing last evening. It was a very clean and organized practice, because the field is perfect. I don't know what to think about these kids practicing on artificial grass.

In twenty years, am I going to tell my two boys that we used to have real grass on fields. It's like telling kids now days, that we had too walk to the television to change the channel, or that the telephone was attached to the wall. If you wanted a mobile phone, you needed a really long cord.

A few benefits to the artificial turf are no need for water or mowing. You don't need to catch gophers or moles, who can destroy a lawn. Plus the lawn looks perfect until it needs to be replaced after many years of ware and tare.

I just feel like the kids of my generation had it better. We played hard on muddy fields with stickers and holes. We never complained about the poor condition of our fields, because it never mattered to us.

Kids will be afraid of mud in the future, because it will be the unknown. I'm @runridefly, and we continiue to Steemit on artificial grass or real grass.

It all depends on where you live, the climate in middle and northern parts of Sweden is so poor 9 months á year that only artificial grass or gravel pitch are viable. If the climate is well then real grass is the only sane option.

But there's also something called Hybrid Grass which is getting more and more popular!

@sparkit, I'm here in central california..sort of a irrigated desert.

Then I'd say it's just ridiculous, when the weather is good enough for grass football should be played on grass!

a few jobs made and a few jobs lost , just a money spinner for a business resulting in grass being replaced by this stuff , nothing better than smelling the fresh aroma of plastic in the morning

few years ago, our National Stadium was rebuilt and they were many complains about the glass not up to standard from many people. I think it's not easy to maintain but people still expect real grass. BTW, checked this in your post:
we had "too" walk to the television.

UV for you. Good post man.

Depending on where you live, some of this may come down to political lobbying by the companies associated with the production and maintenance K's for these artificial fields.

They lobby city officials to get the K.

They lobby the state for funding of same pushed to the Municipal/city level.

Basically they get greased to push this stuff which does have benefits like you said.

But there ain't no $$ for them if a field stays real grass!

I know some of this stuff due to my political activist work analyzing data and policy and then calling out the corruption.

Have a nice day, TY again for all your support on here.

If it's the ground up rubber used for your turf, I am sorry. It's just waste disposal for tires. I don't like them one bit. The little rubber bits get in clothes. And the fields don't last as long as they are advertised. They are expensive. Have you asked any of the kids how they like playing on them?

Ohh, amazing! You know, I struggle with finding a backyard golf putting green. I've been looking everywhere, but nothing seems to be just right. The ones I've seen either don't have the right feel or the quality seems off. It's tough to find one that has a realistic texture and is durable. Do you know of any place where I can find a really top-notch backyard golf putting green that feels like the real deal?

I get it. I'd like to find it too. Recently, I've found backyard golf putting green here. As I see, this company showcase their capability to construct mini-golf courses. The service includes tailored design and installation, suitable for various spaces. It's an interesting concept for creating a recreational area. If anyone has firsthand experience with their mini-golf construction, it would be great to hear about it.
