This hard fork asks one big question: Money or Power?

That's my take on this coming hard fork: it ask the users, especially the whales, what do they value more.

Because the only reason to be Powered Up now would be to be able to dictate what goes trending, who gets money and who's gonna flourish around here. You can participate just as well with no SP and money in the bank, but will it be the same after you had influence? We already know what Frank Underwood would chose because...

There's a certain high to having power, isn't there? If you never had it or can't have it in your day to day life, as it is the case with most of us, being powerful on Steemit was SOMETHING. I'm sure many have felt that, even smaller whales. Hard to let go of that.

On the other hand, there's allure to money too. It's nice to see your account estimated value and something entirely different to actually have those money.

@dantheman said that whoever remains, it will be strong, visionary people. Getting rid of the weak hands is a mandatory step toward Steemit success. Maybe. Because why have you money locked on a site when you don't believe in it, so all who do, will be true believers and push it forward. Hopefully.
Right now, I'm more interested in what the big guys will chose and what does that tell us about our current state of affairs.

That's the question. The answer will be clear soon. I'll be watching.
We all will!

the power to distribute reward is supreme. I'm just waiting for FOX NEWS to knock to my door asking to sponsor their content with my upvote ;-P

·

fuck FOXNEWS! i'll give it up for coca cola though.

·
·

In some way, if the steem ecosystem breaks through...an upvote from a whale could be worth way more than having blondy Megan Kelly on their network...and they are paying her 20Mil. But closing my door in their face could be priceless :-)

·

"This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll whisper "no."

Long may the strong visionary people prevail. Fly by nighters will come and go. Grab the cash or get bored or get disinterested or find another bright shiny toy.

For my side, I am working steadily to get to here

·

barely there!

Nice, tight, pithy and simplified presentation of what might happen.

·

the Raz's style!! thanks :D

I'm after the power :)

·

ha! a man who's not afraid to admit it!

·

um... yeah, me too. Money will come. Power & influence are the keys to get there.

Money or Power?

Some thing Money=Power ...

·

not always :D

·
·

Power > Money

·
·
·

money => value => prediction => actuality

power => energy => potential => possibility

·
·
·
·

=my intelligence

·
·
·
·

intelligence falls maybe under prediction
awareness maybe under potential ;)

One of the things that I like about the hardfork, at least at this moment, is that the focus will now be on content creators and not just Steem Power holders.

I think content creators getting most of the rewards is a good thing.

If that is a money or power thing, I don't know.

·

hehe. as one, i'm all for that :D

Absolute power corrupts absolutely! - I just like that quote

I will be a buyer if we have any kind of a dip, that is for sure. I think at some point we are going a lot higher!

·

here's a "better" one [ not to upend you, i actualluy like that quote too ]

*It's not that power corrupts, it's that power attracts corruptible people. We'd all be better off giving power to those who don't want it..."

·
·

90% of power in the hands of 5% - and they write about the power elites in politics as if the butter would not melt ... interesting stance - 115,000 and 4,000 are two metrics which stick out.

·
·

The Cincinnatus rule!

@dantheman said that whoever remains, it will be strong, visionary people. Getting read of the weak hands is a mandatory step toward Steemit success.

I agree completely with that!

btw its getting rid* ;) :)

·

i was thinking wtf does getting read means? !:))

·
·

Haha, yeah I was hoping it was a typo, would have kept me up all night else. :D

If everyone powers down, then the few who remain powered up will still end up with a good amount of extra steem power (despite the small rate of inflation after the hard fork) so please everyone power down all you want. I will take an extra piece of the generated steempower. Thank you very much.

·

not to mention that our relative power will go up as well which is always fun...or, if the new buyers power up, will be more democratic...i long to see a democratic trending page :)
i'm a dreamer, i know.

·
·

We will get there man. I have both confidence and patience.

For me no question. I choose power. Since my first day on steemit I am powering up constantly because I got the bigger picture from the beginning ;-)

cheers to strong, visionary people :D

Striking way of framing it! You're right: there is a tension between Money (payouts) and Power (using what you've got to power up.)

Power has a bad rap - understandably so! - but Power, if used wisely, will push Steemit into the big leagues. Case in point: right now there's a bit of a debate about NSFW content & what to do about it. The more libertarian-minded, plus (admittedly) the more short-term thinkers, are satisfied with "Let 'em in!" and the honor system. The longer-term thinkers - and of course the prudish - are pointing out that the big leagues are dominated by family-friendly ecosystems; they want barriers or sequestration.

What will the Powers decide? Wait and see....

·

sure thing man, glad you came back as well.

What is going to change actually? As I understand it it's just not such a long term commitment anymore to get power? I thought it's just a way to give something to steemit, can't really talk about an investment with the few bucks I had because I bought BTC for the first time and this seemed like a good place to spend it. Noob haha

Price going up before the Fork is a good sign but it could also be the Calm before the Storm....What happens Wednesday thru Friday might be more indicative of price(which will indicate a dump or not) after the fork.

·

waiting...

·
·

Hopefully the recent price spike keeps the whales on the sideline or taking up what does get dumped, I think I will buy if it goes below 0.15 cents. Anyone else?

·
·
·

i can't make any prediction but i think 10 cents is possible too! who knows though...do whatever you feel right and if you power up, feel free to upvote :D

·

Expectation should already be built into the price. The risk is a big seller dumps on the market. Either way, the price this week has nothing to do with it unless there is a mortal moment! 12-18 months is the timeframe we should be looking at, I believe. Great post @razvanelulmarin - succinctly put. Time for whales to stop intervoting powering down and powering up and feathering the nest?

·
·

i siad it before but i think we could do very well without whales. or at least non-voting whales :)

I choose power. I can live with the responsibility of it. ;)

Resteemed and Upvoted. Excellent post! Thanks!

0.01 Steem was sent to you.

Haha, nice one Raz; you know my feeling on it; they will take the money and ruuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnn! :-)

Cg

I have no idea, but love the excitement.

You did a great job of putting this in layman's terms. The right side of my brain is overwhelmingly larger than the left-it makes it a wee bit difficult to understand the technical side of things at times. But translate it to philosophy and I am suddenly Einstein ;) I have no fear though, the future is brighter than it's ever been, I feel that in my soul. Whatever happens will be great because we'll make it so.

·

thanks a lot!

I still have no idea what I Am supposed to do. I just power up when I can, throw $20 into the account when the price dips for SP or SD or STEEM. I honestly don't know which one is more valuable. Is having more coins a better stance financially? Is having more power better if I blog/post often? What if I want both? To have a bunch of something that is valuable while also being able to get some form of reward when I put out something that people upvote or repost? I still don't truly understand everything but I try to post when I have something to say. I have mined coins in the past and my million Dogecoins didn't pan out haha. I missed the Bitcoin bus by a second bc I was about to buy some years ago when it started the blockchain and didn't. I want this to succeed so I come on everyday and upvote, Powerup, throw some money in the system and keep my fingers crossed. But I really don't know enough to ever become a whale or even a dolphin, or porpoise... yeah. I just hope what I am doing is right and I am not spending my money on the wrong thing. Money is power so idk. Tips anyone? Bueller? Haha. Much love fellow STEEMIT guys/gals.

I think im going to power down once or twice then just pull out my curations rewards. I thinks its matter of willing to take the risk but not put it all into the pot. You have to be able to protect yourself against an attack and to me the best way is by diversifying your assets and currencies.

Good thing I have none yet :D
On the serious note, I agree with a thought that it is for the better to let, the ones who want to leave, just leave. They are not adding quality to steemit by just being here with no joy. It might hurt at first, but must be better in a long run.
As for the question what is better money or power, it is a wrong question to ask. The real question is: will you use your money and power to create a great value, or to build on your egoism? :)

I want both ^_^ Money+power= Awesomeness!
