HOW TO WRITE A VERY GOOD POEM (tutorial 2)

in #article7 years ago (edited)

Good day steemians my name is Josediccus, and im bringing you the 2nd part of my tutorial on how to write a good poem, due to popular demand, i will like to bring you the remaining part of the essential instruments needed in writing a good poem.

In part one of my tutorial i named three (3) focal ingredient of writing a poem, and today i will be giving us another three (3) essentials as well, so many poorly written poems are what have serenading us, and of course whom do you blame when poetry is not really a mastered art by many poet?

First i would like to introduce IMAGERIES to poet, many poets undermine the power of imageries in a poem, an IMAGERY is not a figure of speech, its just a poetic device, it helps a poet to paint mental pictures to the reader using words of certain choices. Many poets don't even know how to use or create imageries, its so simple,
imageries are created when for example a poet paints a picture in his mind, and of course convey it using words. FOR EXAMPLE: "The gently lapping of the forest stream gently gently on a tender bud of flower"

here we see mental pictures of a streamside, and a flower and water, it helps a poet glue his readers to his poem.

And SECONDLY, i will like to introduce the use of RHYTHM to a verse. But of course many poet feels that rhythm is wordplay, its not. A rhythm is making stanzas of a poem have a musical pattern. It will aid the flow of words and make the rhymes in a poem connect. For example

"BENEATH THE NEAT FEET OF MY EMOTIONS"
DOES YOUR TENDER KINDESS RENDER"

Here your readers will be thrilled with your rhythm if you make them work well.

THIRDLY USE A KNOWN RHYME SCHEME

many writers use rhymes without even caring to structure their rhymes, it is a short coming in a would be poem.
As a poet use the recognised rhyme scheme of a professional writer for example, take a look at the Quatrain below.

"THEY ARE THE MIDNIGHTS AT NOON
STRANGLING OUR EFFORT WITH THEIR WEAPON
NEVER WANTING TO WAIT SO SOON
WORSHIPPERS OF DAGON"

This excerpt has the rhyme scheme "ABAB" if we take coignisance of the end words.

Lastly, USE RICH WORDS AND SENTENCES IN A POEM.
A poem is not a prose, so we must learn not to include petty words in our poems, words like "gonna" and "wanna" they dont glorify a poem it makes it lacklustre, and by the time you follow all these procedure plus the tutorials in part one, you are on your way to producing your first quality poem, remain blessed and thank you for reading
