Dylan (Marlias) Thomas was not an English man. He Welshman, though he took to English and his poetry forms a was a part of the Engish poetic tradition. Born and bred in a Welsh provincial town-Swansea-situated close to seashore, he inherited Welsh poetic tradition, Welsh myths and legends, and these colour his poetry despite his oft proclaimed contempt for everything Welsh.

The Welsh character consists in a feeling of awe, a sense of wonder, pristine innocence, etc. Anglo-welsh writers including Dylan Thomas were influenced by William Blake. They have tendency to be subjective hat hromantic, introspective and also passionately emotional. Their mas hft n future y favourite themes are the exploration of childhood, death and the sexual nature of man. Other characteristics are a richness of t feels th metaphor, a dominantly sensuous or sensual imagination, a delight S one in fantasy and the irrational. All these characteristics are found in perienced with the emotional, religious, and sexual man.
