This will be the very first form of poetry I will be making because I have never considered myself a good poet. I could have chosen from any of the other options but I choose to challenge myself today and that’s why you will be reading a poem from me on VICES.

POETRY is a form of art that is composed in verses or languages exhibiting conscious attention to patterns.

It may use condensed or compressed form to convey emotion or ideas to the reader's or listener's mind or ear; it may also use devices such as assonance and repetition to achieve musical or incantatory effects.source

Poems speak to the mind and communicates with the soul of the reader.

Poems frequently rely for their effect on imagery, word association, and the musical qualities of the language used. source

VICES

This is a dangerous way to live, but I gave no heed,
Under her watch, I acted good that much,
But with my friends, I followed the trends.
Life wasn’t that easy, so I had to be busy,
I hung-out with bad friends, as a means to an end,
Even while in pains, I always counted my gains.

Mama would always advice and say, stop these vices.
She would say, these friends will lead to you doom.
But like a stubborn fly that follows the dead to the grave,
I thought I was being brave.
I would drink, smoke and do drugs,
Rape girls, steal cars and act like a thug.
My ego stood tall,
And I thought I would never fall.

Today I regret the mistakes I have made.
I can’t lie on this bed I have laid.
I have lost everything,
And now I have nothing.
I would have listened to my mum when she beckoned,
In her words I should have reckoned.

Those vices were killing me slowly,
But I never listened to my mum’s advice .
Now I have to carry my cross solely ,
Wish I never participated in those vices.
