The Origin, The Destination

The project that I did in VAST 400 at Emily Carr Univeristy is titled 'The Origin, The Destination'. It is an installation that consists of four clear tubes with different content stuffed inside that connects to the wall and ground of the space. They contain soil, food waste, sewage, daily supplies and air separately. On one end, I attached a tap; on the other end, I casted a resin with little dirt in a tube and demolded it to enclose the tube. In my perspective, they are put into the spot according to the content in the tube. For example, the food waste one is hang onto an eye-level height wall, and the sewage one is placed on the ground. They are discharge system from all aspects.

They are also a representation of human body system, which the tap symbolizes the mouth and the tubes represent the intestine. Having them placed in an architectural room, it builds up human relationships with industrial object. Also by presenting them in a clear tube, the contents are exposed. Therefore, viewers can see the matter of time passage. Ideally, it would arouse questions like![WechatIMG1.jpeg] how we see the daily objects as waste or trash? How we value things that we disposed or have been through a time? It is contradictory that something is more valuable after times while others are taken down.
