An early original painting from 2006 (partial image shown) - Warung Kopi - The Local Neighborhood Coffee Shop - Acrylic on canvas - reworked and color corrected.
Indonesia grows coffee, a lot of coffee ... from Sumatra, Java and many other islands - we sell quite a bit to Starbucks (yes, we have Starbucks shops here as well - way overpriced and actually not that good tasting) ... but this painting depicts a scene of the old Indonesia, the real rural Indonesia with a typical local neighborhood coffee shop.
These still are important social gathering places, where everyone meets and chats ... newspapers are not needed, because the owner IS the newspaper / he knows everyone and everything that goes on in our little world outside the big cities.
Living colors as always! I can literally smell the scent of the coffe and the sweat treats.

In my geography classes as a kid I read indonasia is famous for rubber plantation too .. Is that true by any chance ?
Hi, that is correct ... in 2014, Indonesia was the second largest producer / exporter for Natural rubber (after Thailand). It all began in the 19th century with the Dutch East India (Asia) Trading Companies during the Dutch occupation / colonialism.
