The first Hospital I saw with ART on their walls - Hospital Dr. Perez Carreño - Caracas; Venezuela - Photo Blog
For reasons of destiny I am in the capital city of Venezuela, Caracas. My stay in the city forces me to be in constant visit to Dr. Miguel Pérez Carreño Hospital, which is part of the Venezuelan Institute for Social Security (IVSS) Acronyms in Spanish.
It's my first time visiting this place. From the first day I noticed something that surprised me. In one of the corridors of the hospital there is an extensive gallery of lithographs. Or as it says in the statement that introduces you: "Presidential Collection Graphs Venezuela".
To enliven and enrich those areas, to dignify the architectures that very often are petty and hostile, but above all, to unite generously the art and people, who have never had to separate.
I did an investigation in Internet to know more data on the project, since the dates of all the lithographs that are in this place have data of the year 2004. and when I consult the personnel of maintenance of the hospital they didn't know to give me more information. They only clarified to me, that the empty spaces were there, because some of the works had fallen. To my surprise I got the information I needed. I'll leave the link here. But it's in Spanish. I will translate the basic information so you can understand the scope of the collection.
The originality of this collection lies in the fact that it is not a collection, but two hundred groups of works, that is, two hundred (200) collections. The works were made by one hundred (100) Venezuelan artists, who work with different means of visual expression.
Each artist certified 200 pieces, signed and numbered them. Therefore, each collection is made up of 100 editions and, in general, the Presidential Collection Graphs Venezuelan, 2004 is composed of twenty thousand (20,000) framed works.Source
I apologize for the poor quality of this photo, but in Venezuela it is almost a crime to take photographs in public institutions. But 7/200 is appreciated. In the hospital all the works of art were 7 of 200
In summary, the information is more extensive. But I think this is what you have to know to understand the importance of the project that was carried out on those dates and that even I, as a Venezuelan, did not know.
The Gallery
On the wall you can see the IVSS logo & some of the artwork
The place where you can read the purpose of the gallery.
Now the ones I liked most
The unicorn
The chess horse.
The child.
The first day I saw this place I ignored it, I knew that the works were there. But I had not looked carefully. When you're in a hospital it's for serious reasons. I do not want to fall for what happens to me, because I'm not the patient. But in the middle of everything, I took a moment to appreciate the gallery and I was able to find some peace and harmony. As the introduction to the gallery says: "to dignify the architectures that very often are petty and hostile, but above all, to unite generously the art and people, who have never had to separate."
