Surreal Digital Collage
I don't know about you guys, but I tend to get obsessed with an idea. To the point that I am grumpy if I have to do something else and I don't get to immerse myself in creativity. I have become fascinated with this style of vintage surreal digital art. I used vintage illustrations in this but I would prefer to draw my own pieces, so I am planning on picking up some pencil crayons. I haven't used pencil crayons in forever...probably not since highschool...back then PRISMA was the best brand, is that still good? Should I pick up a pack of those? Anyone have recommendations?
Back in highschool I use to draw mostly fantasy themed art, but sometimes I did surreal drawings as well, and I kind of feel like I am going back to the beginning, but in a whole new way. I actually have plans to re-create some pencil drawings I did in this new digital collage style!
Oh and tea stain more paper. I MUST tea stain more paper!!

I love the moth image of Quentin as the beast so much that I think I am going to do one of myself just like it.
And just because I do not plan on making a separate post for this image, here is the image I was actually shooting for when I took the pictures of me in the black dress. The image I used in the collage I was actually just testing the lighting before putting my wig on. I was also wearing shoes that I had to composite bare feet on top. But It worked for the butterfly thing because I had all my hair pulled back so I went with it. Interesting to see such different things come from very similar images.

I always try out new mediums. It’s amazing how many skills are transferred across mediums. A year ago I ONLY did photography and when I picked up a paint brush and did an oil portrait I was surprised by how good it turned out. I had learned so much about shape, tonal value, lighting from photography and it all came in handy when painting. After that I was convinced to keep trying new things!!
So true! Art is so interdisciplinary, all you have to do is re-apply the right concepts. Lots of that is talent, too! As of right now, I don't consider myself a visual artist outside of photography, because even when I try to apply the skills I thought I knew it comes out looking like dirt :) Practice, practice, practice I suppose
