I am sure you will agree that the feeling of happiness and pride whenever you have a look upon your completed knit or crochet project is matchless. Crafting with organic yarn is my passion and it gives a boost to my self-confidence when someone appreciates my creativity. But the fact that this hobby of mine is actually therapeutic in nature sparked my curiosity. I am excited to share the findings with all of you.

It helps coping with stress
Many of us have gone through the times when life seems too difficult to cope with. Whether it is due to the illness of a loved one, or the loss of someone special, or may be little stresses of hectic everyday life. Picking up a bundle of organic yarn to weave up something new gets you going and soothes you through the times of stress.

While knitting or crocheting, your hands will seldom remain free. This is especially helpful for those who want to break persistent annoying habits such as compulsive skin picking or lip pealing. It has even proven effective for those who want to decrease or quit smoking.

The continuous act of counting, multiplying, adding and subtracting during this craft keeps the abilities of your brain in exercise. It not only improves the mathematical skills but also helps increase the capacity of brain to focus and concentrate for longer duration.

The continuous brain exercise through the activity of organic yarn crafting somehow protects the neurons in your brain from damage. It not only helps keep the brain healthy for decades, but also minimizes the effects of aging brain where the brain functions have already started declining.

The art of knitting and crocheting is now rightfully being termed as “new yoga”. It is found to be equivalent to meditation. That is why it reduces the levels of stress hormone cortisol in your body which benefits the heart by keeping blood pressure and heart rate in check.

It helps cure depression and anxiety
A number of people have shared their experience about how knitting or crocheting has been of immense help to them during the phases of depression or anxiety. Studies have shown that it is because of the increase in the level of serotonin (the chemical of happiness) in our brains.

The benefits of organic yarn crafting are endless. So if you consider it as just a hobby, take a step ahead. It is in fact a part of nature friendly lifestyle which not only gives us a sense of achievement but also keeps us healthy and happy.
