Okey, here we go... THIS IS DANZA GUAYOYO! / Bien, aquí vamos... ¡ESTO ES DANZA GUAYOYO!
Good day/afternoon/evening from the place where you are reading me... 😊 🌎
To begin, I want to tell you about something new that is cooking in my life. Currently, together with a group of dancing friends I am developing a performance project where different artistic expressions such as dance, music (live), poetry and visual arts dialogue with each other.
We decided to name this proposal Danza Guayoyo, and although it is only the name of the proposal, some people identify us affectionately as "Las guayoyitas".

Surely you will wonder where this particular name comes from ... what flavor does Guayoyo have? Well I will briefly tell you a little of what I know about this:
Guayoyo is the most traditional way to prepare coffee in my native country, Venezuela. It is very simple but significant because it is the drink with which many of us started the day. It is a black coffee slightly watered down, some people sweeten it with papelón and also add a little cinnamon, cocoa ... everything depends on the taste of each one.

Finally, taking up the story, it all started with an invitation to dance in a coffee shop inside the National Art Gallery, and we began to wonder about the meaning that coffee has for each one, about the different forms of preparation , in what situations or moments we drink it, what sensations it produces, what memories it bring, whit whom we shared it, among other. These questions became paths that led us to the exploration of spontaneous movements, songs, sounds and verses, from improvisation as a creative path.
In this way, we have been creating stories and investigating in depth the diverse relationships that are associated with coffee as a symbolic drink of our history and identity, and in the same sense, contributing to the construction of powerful spaces for dance in alternative places (not conventionals).

And well, in this we are. So far we haved two presentations, in two different places. Both experiences have been incredible because they have helped us to learn from our production errors (as none knows about this) and has motivated us to inquire more about the subject.
The dancers who are currently part of this proposal are: Yulianne Peñaloza, Estephanie Carrizales, Waleska Aguilar and myself, Valentina Martínez; And our great musicians companions José Matos and Paulo Renz, on guitar, cuatro and mandolin.
