Watercolor: Burnout
Feeling a little burnt-out this week after wrapping up on some projects, so I felt a little cigarette butt was appropriate symbolism.
This was a tiny pen and ink drawing that I colored in watercolors. Sometimes the simplest thing you can do is throw a set of big googly-eyes on an everyday object to turn it into a character.
Love the illustration, and I hope you can keep your fire going. Here's a video that always helps me keep moving.
Dang that was wonderful. Thanks for sharing. A line that really stuck with me was “You can can be a professional one day and an amateur the next.” I feel like that sums up my career pretty well. haha But that’s what happens when you’re constantly growing and learning from past experiences I guess -- the “bar” for greatness is always changing.
The opening poem by Charles Bukowski really resonated with me as well, but more on a romanticised level. “If it doesn’t move you don’t do it” is easier said than done, when a project is tied to your financial well being. But I completely agree with the sentiment — especially with personal work.
Thanks again for sharing this.
Absolutely. For a while I had this on repeat in the car and at home. There's a certain grit in being a professional artist that is hard to explain to others, but this video is affirming and helps me to toughen up and enjoy that grit than try to "fix it". :D
Here's one for you too! You might have seen this already as it's been floating around for a while, but it's Ira Glass talking about making good art. The Gap
Yes! I love this video! I referenced it in my article-post, "How I spent my first $50 from Steemit."
So cool! I love the bug eyes and the awkward pose. Also, I've been meaning to mention that you have a very distinctive signature and its kind of architectural like Frank Lloyd Wright's.
Oh whoa! I’ve never seen his signature before but I see what you mean. I tried to build a signature off of my initials and this is sort of what evolved over time. Left side of the skull is a T and right side is a J
Great minds think alike!

Googly-eyes work wonders. Who knew? Got an upvote from me!
This is pretty awesome. I like how it seems to be walking aimlessly (like a zombie) - life can feel like this sometimes.
