At least I can love
I think the main reason why partnership often doesn't function nowadays is because it's seen and treated as an incidental. People love their cars, pets, friends... more than their partners. But for a partnership to function it must be the main thing in someones life. People not only do not want to waste time with it but I think they are afraid of giving up a part of themselves to be replaced by a foreign part. That's sad because I'm sure a functioning partnership is in the long run the most fulfilling, maybe the only fulfilling thing in life and it lets you outgrow yourself through the unition with another being.
