My Photoshop Tutorial: Making Pop-up 3D Effect #1
Hi Steemians this is @toffer In this Photoshop tutorial you we'll learn how to make a pop up photo 3D effect on your photo in most easiest way you can this by yourself. I use Photoshop CS5. Let's get started!
Choose Photo
• First open your Photoshop and choose a photo on your photo gallery. image source
Copy The Background Layer
• Make two copies of you background layer to do that just hitting CTRL + J on windows or Command + J. You can also change the name of each layers to do that just double click on the name of the layer. I change name of the Layer 1 to Frame at the Layer 1 copy to Pop-up.
New Layer
• Move your mouse cursor and click the Click To Create New Layer and drag it to top of frame layer.
Background Layer
• Click on the Background layer to make it active if the layer turn blue the layer is already active we're going the layer fill it with black. Go to Set Foreground Layer and choose color black click the Alt + Delete on your keyboard.
Visibility
• Turn off the visibility of Pop-up layer to do that click the eye icon beside of the layer.
Rectangular Marquee Tool
• Click the Rectangular Marquee Tool or just click letter M on your keyboard use the Marquee Tool to select and covering the main subject. Drag the Marquee Tool in the subject and start to top just roughly draw and covering the main subject.
Stroke
• Go to Edit and click Stroke the stroke will give a rectangle simple border.
Stroke Pop-up Menu
• By clicking the Stroke the Stroke pop-up menu window is open I'm choosing 15 pixels on this image depending on the size and resolution of your image you may adjust this number. Go to location and click Inside and make sure the Color is white and if the color isn't white click on the color box and when the color picker is open choose white and click OK.
Border
• After set the size of value of the Stroke as you can see the stroke instantly makes a 15 pixels white border inside the selection. To delete the selection click the CTRL + D on your keyboard.
Perspective
• Go to Edit, Transform and Perspective.
Perspective Shape
• Click on the top corner and drag it in the Perspective shape transform move both sides at the same time. Click on the bottom corner and moving out then click Enter on your keyboard to return.
Frame Layer
• Go to Frame Layer and click CTRL the click the Frame Layer it this will make a selection on a frame shape.
Invert The Selection
• To invert the selection click CTRL + SHIFT + I and press letter Q on your keyboard to make it into a Quick Mask
Paint Bucket Tool
• Go to the panel tool click the Paint Bucket Tool and click anywhere outside the quick mask. The pain bucket tool fill the rest then click letter Q on your keyboard to change the quick mask back into the selection.
Layer 1
• Go to the layer, click the Layer 1 to make it active and click on Layer Mask. Click the eye icon of Pop-up layer to make it visible and click on layer to make it active.
Make A Selection
• To make a selection on a subject to pop it out from the background there are many ways to do that you should use whatever tools you find the easiest and most effective to make a selection on your subject.
Quick Selection Tool
• I'll use Quick Selection Tool I'm dragging the quick selection tool inside the area I want to select. To subtract the selection hold ALT and drag inside the selection
Refine Edge
• Go to Select and choose the Refine Edge.
Refine Edge Settings
• After by clicking the Refine Edge the pop-up menu window will open there are many view modes you can choose. For this example I do this modes. In Edge Detection click the Smart Radius increase the value of the Radius I'll set the value of my Radius to 1.0 pixels, Smooth to 5 pixels and the Feather is 0.6 pixels the click OK.
Layer Mask
• Click the Layer Mask icon to make a Layer Mask of the selection and the top of the baby revealed thru the Layer Mask.
Linear Gradient Color
• Go to the layer again, click the Background Layer to make it active we make a black and white Linear Gradient Color.
Gradient Editor
• Go to left upper corner, click the gradient thumbnail to edit the gradient. After by clicking the gradient thumbnail the Gradient Editor is open and click the black and white gradient the click OK.
Gradient Color.
• Go to the top of your image hold SHIFT on your keyboard and drag down vertical line to the bottom and then release your mouse.
Final Result
