Art in the city of Amfissa and its old coffeehouses
Amfissa, in Central Greece, is a city that has a great history, especially throughout the Ottoman wars. Actually the entire region was a true battlefield. Amfissa still has a rustic colour in its buildings, where you want to hide yourself inside. I visited Amfissa recently and was surprised to find art exhibitions in a couple of its coffeehouses.
The one that I was particularly amazed with is the exhibition of Costas Tsiknis in the Old Distillery (Paleo Potopiio). This place was once a Cabaret with women standing in each numbered seat. Then it became a distillery, then a cave and now a coffeehouse.
In its basement you will see this unbelievable exhibition. I called it People Looking at Us:
If you look closer you will see figures and eyes around them, which are looking at these figures. Great colours, great idea.
In this coffee shop, named Big Coffee Shop (Megalo Kafenio), you will see this exhibition of people drawing on sous-verres (drinks coasters). The artists are Panagiotis Mitsombonou and George Skylogiannis.
This coffee shop used to be a small theatre. Amazing place.
Till next time, enjoy!
