New projects part THREE!!!
Part three in my recent string of completed projects!
This was done for an animal rescue, a cause near and dear to me (two very special animals in my life were rescues), so I was super excited to work on a sign for one.
First of all, when dealing with the public, I have discovered we sometimes have to suck it up and do things we think are unnecessary. For instance, when I recieved this order I told them what I was planning on doing, and i had to draw the whole thing out, I mean the WHOLE thing, I am not used to this, as I can visualize things really well, so usually I don't need to see everything drawn out. This was not the case for the customer... So after I draw everything out I get to work. Buddy, let me tell ya, sometimes it's frustrating and we don't want to do the things required, but life is full of difficulty.
**DONT GIVE UP WHEN YOU MESS UP!! **
I had this sign over halfway done and had to start over, because I realized the red paint wasn't going to cover the black. This was a hard moment for me to accept, that everything I had just done went up in smoke. So I went back to the drawing board and figured out what went wrong, and fixed it. So without further ado, let's get into it
**1. Paint the whole thing white **
Pretty self explanatory, onto step two
**2. Modpodge all over *,
Matte is recommended, as you will have to apply it several times throughout this process.
**3. Draw your zebra print in pencil **
I freehanded it, but if you prefer a stencil or some such, do whatever is comfortable!
4. Draw your circle and use a ruler to stencil out rectangle
I used a roll of painters tape for the circle stencil, and used a red paint pen to draw it.
5. After you've gotten them stenciled out, draw and color in your zebra lines with paint pens
I used a fine point to draw them and a medium to fill them out. Note I did NOT fill in anything inside the circle or rectangle.
6. Tape off rectangle and color in CAREFULLY
Make sure to press the edges really well, and to erase the pencil marks before doing so!
7. Erase pencil marks in circle and color in
Both the circle and the rectangle will take several coats to cover and look right so don't get discouraged!
8. Modpodge again
9. Draw pawprint and write writing in the rectangle
I used a fine point for both.
*the rest of the writing is optional, I wouldve preferred it without, but that's what the client wanted!
Bam! You've got a sign!! Cover the whole thing with polyurethane when you're done and you're finished!!
Enjoy your new sign!!
Much love
