God's Own State ABIA
Abia (State, Southeast Nigeria)
Abia, hailed by it's people as 'God's Own State', is one of the state in Nigeria's southeast region. it's administrative capital is at umuahia but Aba, one of the major commercial cities in Nigeria, is arguably the state's busiest town. Abia's name was derived as an acronym using the first letters from the names of it's most populous cuties; Aba, Benda, lsiukwuato and Afikpo. The state, mainly populated by lgbo natives.
Abia state is bordered by lmo, from which it was carved,to the West ; Ebonyi and Enugu states to the North; Rivers state to it's South; and cross River and Akwa-lbom states to the East and south-east respectively. Fairly motorable roads link the aforementioned states to Abia's capital and major towns, but visitors arriving by air would need to touch down first at the airport of neighboring cuties like Owerri or Port Harcourt before processing to Abia via road. The lack of an airport of international standards notwithstanding, Abia's four million inhabitants rank among the most enterprising and industries people of Nigeria.
Today, the English language may be as widely spoken as the people's indigenous lgbo language, and Christianity is the widely practiced religion, but Abia remains an immensely important cultural centre to the lgbo race. lmportant cultural sites like the Aro Long Juju Shrine at Arochukwu, the National War Museum at Umuahia, and a number of relics from the slave trade era bear testament to the colorful history of Abia state and the role it once played in the development of the lgbo race. Like their Kinsmen, now dispersed across the many states of the Southeast region and indeed the nation as a whole, Abian"s observe a number of important festival annually; one of such is the popular New Tam Festival; an annual thanksgiving event to celebrate the harvest season.
