My new aboriginal art collection

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Just thought i'd share some alternative investments I have made, and have been intending on getting into for some time but always kept putting it off. Finally i pulled the trigger about a month ago.

I purchased these 3 hand painted Aboriginal artworks, from a gallery that was closing down in alice springs. The artist is Gloria Petyarre , i'll post the wiki description here ...

"Gloria Petyarre (born 1938, Mosquito Bore, Utopia, Northern Territory) is an Australian Aboriginal artist from the Anmatyerre community, just north of Alice Springs. In 1999, the Australian magazine Art Collector called her "one of our most collectable indigenous artists".[1] As of 2014, her overall career rank on the Australian Indigenous Art Market was 13.[2]

Petyarre won the Wynne Prize in 1999 with Leaves, being the first Aboriginal person to win one of the Art Gallery of New South Wales's major prizes.[3] She traveled to Ireland, England and India in 1990 as part of the Utopia – A picture story exhibition. She held her first solo exhibition in 1991. She is represented in Australian galleries such as the National Gallery of Australia. She is the niece of Emily Kngwarreye and the younger sister of Kathleen Petyarre, who are also artists."

The three paintings I have purchased are probably atypical aboriginal artworks, and I bought them primarily because I liked the painting which is one of the golden rules. I framed them up yesterday myself and hung them. The superannuation rules were changed a while back so that Aboriginal artwork collections for SMSF (self managed superannuation funds) had to be kept in vaulted storage, which of course adds substantial cost to ownership.

Wifey and I both agreed this was the best, all of these artworks are done with different variations so there could possibly be a number of similar ones, they paint the similar ones over and over again. So you are able to buy other Bush Medicine Leaves in different sizes and designs and colours.

Also "Bush Medicine Leaves"

Wifey picked this one out, its hanging in the dining room for her to enjoy. I did not honestly know there were these kinds of aboriginal artworks until i looked into it further, so i think even most Australian people that view these would not know they were aboriginal art until you told them. The typical artworks are more like this:

& her hermes scarf that hermes asked her to custom design, if you are married or have a mrs she may know the brand hermes, they do crocodile handbags etc, and other expensive stuff - crocodile is in at the moment FYI.
