Thomas The Tank Engine Cake.
Here is one of my proud creations I feel slightly attached to. It was a free cake I had made for my brother to give away for a little boy's birthday. The birthday boy liked Thomas The Tank Engine so that was the theme. I wanted to do something different with the cake shape and create a playful scene as opposed to a plain round or square cake. So I made a small hill and ramp for Thomas to climb.
Here is a picture of my sketch idea I had drafted up when I was coming up with ideas. At the time I also had my trusty Samsung Note One which I used to sketch out an idea of the cake in colour. This way I could see if the colours went well together and what I needed to make stand out more or add.Thomas was the first thing I made for this cake. It took a long time to piece together, especially the face. I had actually made a really good face but discovered it was a bit too small for the size of the body. I could not adjust the body without adjusting everything. So the only logical thing to do was redo the face.
I did wonder if I could just use the slightly small face but it just looked funny. So I held it between my fingers and squished it to restart. I swear I felt as though I was squishing my heart between my fingers. My heart ached so much as I watched the face morph into a ball.
One part of the cake decoration I loved, besides Thomas, were the rocks spelling out the birthday boy's name. It turned out better than I expected. The colours turned out really well and looked life like where marbling showed. A little hard to see from the picture but some of the rocks I partially mixed different coloured fondant together til I get a marble effect.
There was one thing that looked funny but I didn't fix because I was really tired and it was the last thing to do. I was having trouble getting it right the way I wanted. So I said to myself, this is a free cake, you have already done enough detailing. But afterwards I wish I did fix it because now it bothers me.
However the cake was a hit at the party. It was such a hit they decided they didn't want to cut it. They wanted to keep it instead. They ended up going to Woolworths to buy a $5 cake to cut instead.
This is an awsome cake, you're really talented.
All that hard work and I bet it dident last long, with hungry little children around.
Thanks!
They didn't eat that cake; they ate the one they got from the supermarket. They birthday boy wanted to keep Thomas and the parents wanted to keep it all together
Thomas is really cute! Sometimes you do have to just redo things
Thanks! Yes that is true, but the hardest part was letting go of the first one
Amazing work. Well done!
Thanks @quochuy! I wish I could of kept the cake myself hahaha; or in particular Thomas. He turned out pretty cool.
Very cool.
Thanks!
I wouldn't want to cut that cake either, you did an amazing job. You must have a lot of patience to do such detailed work, what a lucky boy!
Thanks! It was fun to create it.
Tasty!!
Try it with a Vienna lager next time!
