Aesthetic Essences #7steemCreated with Sketch.

Diving through the pools of artistry that laps along the trails of digital landscapes I’ve come across the following works of art. Appreciate them and admire the aesthetic essences found within.

Artist: Logan Feliciano

Logan is at a great place artistically, his works really stand out and the creative spirit really thrives. There are noticeable motifs within his works and there is clear cohesion between each compositional element. The works really speak for themselves and I'm excited to see more from him in the future :D Show your love and appreciation for him.

Mat Ergenu the Life Spinner

These disembodied and abstract creatures have become much more common place over the years, likely due to MTG and their Eldrazi creatures that have similar features to this character here. I really dig this motif of floating hands, symbolic poses and highly stylized usage of form. Having the lower body be a mass of tendrils that seem to connect to the floor of this strange environment forces the viewer to really push their imagination to its utmost limit when understanding this artwork. While the background has little detail, there lies a semblance of depth that is built upon the density of light in the middle-and-far backgrounds. Fantastic work.

Devorbisyth the World Devourer

Big props to Logan for the naming of these two characters, haha, I really dig the abstract names. While it’s a bit of a mouthful, artists should not worry about how people think of the names they give to characters and works; be spontaneous and let that creativity flow. I almost feel like this is not quite a completed work as it feels less defined than it could be. The body of the character is a little foggy and blurred, although that may be due to the expression of size for this guy. Being a world devourer I’m sure he’s friggen huge, so making its features some what vague would make sense. I feel the impact the creature has would be further emblazed by seeing more minute details on its total form, however the work does a good job giving the idea of how badass this character is. This has a lot of potential and I’d love to see more creatures like this from Logan :)

Custapor Gate Keeper to Nirvana

Mmm Nirvana, I always dig the use of that word, and artists should not fear its use! The composition for this is quite nice: the fierceness of the big cat and the angelic lady at its side. Even more so the background is fantastic, with the large temple-like structure and the brief semblance of clouds in the back. It really seems like the setting is some heavenly place, Nirvana itself, and these two certainly uphold its grandeur.

Adeliael Angel of Rectitude

You see that sword? That’s a boss-ass Flambege! I really like Flamberges :D, and this is done very well. The serval-esque big cat and the angel with her relaxed but readied pose looking off to the side. Logan again shows his compositional prowess with the background; the calm off-white foggy air and the castle spires atop steep mountains. It’s a very regal scene, with a stalwart semblance radiating from the angel. I really dig this man, great work.

Artist: Domenico Neziti

Domenico has a great short series called R.P.Generations that breaks down the nuances of table-top rpg’s, providing a lot of empathy and perspective into that world. RPG’s as a whole, table-top or otherwise, have been a big influence on my art and I certainly see that in Domenico’s work. Domenico has a variety of characters, environments and line-art to enjoy so give him some love.

Iron Wolf

Some folks really desire the process of developing a work of art, although I don’t think artists should feel compelled to do so, but, it is nice to see a process like this as it demystifies the magic of art. Beginning with a rough sketch, this is always step one as it allows for that free flowing energy to make its way through and show itself through the strokes and markings. After the form takes shape, clean up the work and make adjustments as seen fit with respect to keeping the total form intact. Blocking out color and then adding the values, shadows, mid-tones and highlights, will be the final step once the line-art is complete. All of this is evident from Domenico’s work here for the Iron Wolf; when looking at the final piece it’s clear how well the process builds up the dimensionality of the character giving it life and vitality.

Work Phases

Developing a character in a pose is one thing, but developing characters in an environment is a step up. I dig this piece as it shows a lot more changes than the previous, in respect to how the artwork evolves as you work on it. As an artist you will come across pathways that make you change the work in a manner that was not initially stated. Remaining flexible and able to change things as you go will better serve you in the long run; this further breaks down into the “should or could” argument of which will really toss your head around when it finds a way into your mind. There is no real “should I” in art, you simply need to understand the potential of the work and make decisions as the results will speak for themselves.

Cute Critters

I love little creatures like these :D So many games do things right by enhancing the environments with little critters. Apparently the owlbear and bulette were inspired by the Ultraman and Godzilla series and were first part of the original D&D monster sets and have persisted since. Some nice continuation of history.

Bigger Critters

These critters have a bit more detail and shadow added to them than the cute ones from before, although that Gust Lizard is still quite adorable! Bids like the Dagger Beak have always been a favorite of mine; birds like herons and flamingos are so exotic. The drake-hound is an interesting thought, of having a dog-like creature that is more dragonic in its features. Two-thirds of a chimera is funny, I’ve honestly not seen that idea put forward in such a way. Overall really wonderful drawings :D
