Night light - 2011

Painted over the summer break from college, this painting is small, probably a few inches larger than an iPhone 6 plus. It was done in oil and let dried at room temperature for about 3 months. The scenery depicts waves crashing on the shore violently as a storm is coming near. Far over the distance, a lone mountain peak perches through the cloud, illuminated by a full moon.

Blue and purple work out better than I thought. They go well together as dark purple is almost indistinguishable from dark blue, both have heavy contrast with white. Originally, there is only a moon covered up with clouds which lights up a tiny area of the sky. However, I decided to make it brighter for effect and added the peak. It turned out better than I had hoped.

The mood is something along the line of solitude, isolation feeling one get when faces against forces of nature with a bit of shadowy mist and mystery to darken the atmosphere.
