Local Art Carvings on the Mosque Pulpit - Part II
Good Night Art Lovers!
In my last post, Mosque Platform - The neatness wood carving art, I have explained some things related to sculpture on the pulpit of the mosque, about local carvings and tropical motifs on teak.
I would like to continue the writing, to complete the discussion about the pulpit motives in Aceh. If I see, there are actually many kinds of pulpits here, which are made with various variations. Some have stairs, and some are made with no stairs, just lying on the floor.
Mosque Pulpit History
For Muslims, the pulpit is not something new, because every Muslim will enter the mosque, at least once a week, on Friday. However, for other religions, I think the devotees are also often faced with the pulpit, it can be a church pulpit for the Christians, or existing in every other religious house of worship.
In Islam, this pulpit began to be known since the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who lived more or less 1400 years ago. At that time, the pulpit was made as a means of preaching, to give religious sermons to the people. And until now, the function is still the same.
The most famous here is the pulpit of the mosque that uses more stairs so that a pulpit was made higher, in order to be reached by audiences in listening to religious lectures.
I photographed this pulpit at one of the mosques in North Aceh, there are 9 steps on the platform. The style was adjusted like the pulpit type of Medina mosque, the qibla of Muslims.
Inside the mosque, the pulpit is always placed on the front, the congregation will sit in rows by facing the pulpit.
In the past, the pulpit was still very simple, but now, the pulpit can be designed with according to the progress of the times. Because there is an artistic value to the whole pulpit body.
The main material to form this pulpit is teak wood, carved by professional sculptors. I once asked an employee at this mosque, he said the price for a pulpit unit like this could reach the US $ 10,000 or more.
All right, steemians, I will continue writing about other mosque pulpits in my next post. All of me, @ steemvest17.
