Scotty's Stone Daily, first three days, post one of five
These are the first three in the Scotty's Stone Daily trial project, which I started in February this year 2017.
I was trying to see if I could do a daily painting project of that magnitude, very modest, as you can see.
Well, it's pretty interesting to read along with the texts, that I forced myself to write for Saatchi.
Links under each image to their pages in Saatchi
you can read between the lines right from the start, as I struggle with my day to day existence, reproduced below with no further editing.
I have sent these works in submission to a new gallery in China, you can see a post about that at the link
Day one
scotty's stone daily 111, 22nd Feb 2017
Scott Hollingsworth
Spain
Painting
Size: 34 H x 24 W x 0.2 cm
Ships in a cardboard box
Painting: Watercolor and Acrylic on Paper.the first day of the trial period before committing to the scotty's stone daily year long challenge.
an inauspicious start as I couldn't get it finished in one day and it went over to day two, making day two a real challenge too. And here I am more than halfway through day three and I am still playing catch up with all the other aspects of the project.
Watercolour on acrylic gesso on art card. The pigment is ocre oro (golden ochre) from the Bizancio top end range of Artist quality watercolours from Titan, the Spanish paint giant. It's a particularly lovely pigment.
The technique is what I call unpainting, using a put on take off approach, made possible by using (certain pigments) watercolour paint on an acrylic gesso surface.
Art card in colours, painted with acrylic gesso and soft gel.
Archival and artist quality materials.
The work is unframed but needs to be framed under glass for display.follow along with the project as I get it going at www.scotty.es

Day 2
scotty's stone daily 112 23rd Feb 2017

Painting

Ships in a cardboard box
Painting: Watercolor and Acrylic on Paper.the second day of the (long) trial period before the big launch of scotty's stone daily year long challenge. I feel like I might well be found wanting.
I have the idea that it is the project that will make me, but it could also prove to be the final straw and break me too.
I was still finishing day one yesterday, the day of this drawing, number two so started well behind the eight ball, as they say
anyway, this is Windsor and Newton Artist watercolour Cobalt Green, on acrylic gesso, on art card. A small volcanic rock, I think, although I am no geologist.
Still to start day three's drawing/painting so the stress is building.

Day 3
scott's stone daily 113, 24 Feb 2017
Scott Hollingsworth
Spain
Painting
Size: 34 H x 24 W x 0.1 cm
Ships in a cardboard box
Painting: Watercolor and Acrylic on Paper and Cardboard.day three of scotty's pre-challenge to see if he is up to the task of doing the challenge. It has been some time since discipline has been one of scotty's strongest traits. And his current environment makes it all the more challenging. But scotty loves a challenge, sucker for punishment.
This is technically not a stone, but rather a piece of sea glass. I think it comes from the beach at Sotogrande, in Cadiz, southern Spain or maybe I have been carrying it around for more than twenty years and it is from the beach at Coolum, in Queensland Australia.
Don't ask me for more.
