Shining On: An Original Poem

When the symphonies are quiet,
And the blood-dimmed tide is on the rise,
Your thoughts begin to riot,
As the flame within you dies.
The hours grow wings, and take flight,
As time is silently mocking you,
It's getting darker, at the edge of the night,
As the sunset's colours are changing hue
For the first time perhaps, you've been so alone
No one to follow. No one to guide.
So far away from home,
And no rules to abide.
You think it's all in your mind,
You'll wake up someday.
When hope is hard to find,
And someday is an eternity away.
The future never was certain, never was sure as
Your head fills with cliches you've been told.
But its time to fight them, and open up that door,
And find your destiny, whatever it holds.
You're feeling apprehensive,
As you pull back those drapes,
To find an apparition,
Staring you in the face.
Many-eyed, it appears angry and seething,
You can smell the blood on its breath.
All thoughts of escape are fleeting,
And you wait for your impending death.
You see a rock at your feet,
And you throw it with all your might,
Straight at the beast,
Giving it all your fight.
The beast reacts, with pain in its eyes,
But there's also pain in you.
For you hear when the beast cries,
And that rock hurt you too.
Finally, you know what to do,
The meaning understood at last,
The beast is a part of you,
Consisting of your past.
As you learn to love the beast, and accept your wrongs,
You embrace the beast, with feelings dear,
And suddenly its gone,
Leaving the pathway clear.
With a light in your eyes, and a sense of mystery,
The past is behind you now, forgotten history.
You can stop the world,and tell it, Now it's your turn,
To shine on....shine on yet never burn.
