As the sequel got released, I decided to watch Blade Runner again and, believe it or not, a nail and a dove show everything that gesture can say on films. Let me explain myself with the premise of the movie.

Inspired on science fiction novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by author Philip K. Dick, Blade Runner is set in the year 2019 (!), a world where flying cars and androids -called replicants- are everywhere (!!!), the Blade Runner division is in charge of identifying, finding and "retiring" a specific model of replicants, the Nexus 6. This happens because, in a colony outside the Earth, a group of them rised and ended the life of 23 humans.

Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is one of the top agents from this division, looking for the last replicants he meets Rachael (Mary Sean Young) a prototype able of passing lots of detection methods for androids because she doesn't know what she really is. He starts to develop feelings for her but his job gets more and more pressing: Roy (Rutger Hauer), the leader of the rebel replicants tries by all means to find and hunt his own creator Eldon Tyrell (Joe Turkel).

When Roy and Tyrell finally meet two very significant things happen in the plot, finally we learn about Roy's motivation, his body is decaying and inside the conscience he developed feels a need of staying alive, he doesn't want to be left to be forgotten like the others. And the second thing is that one of the best dialogues takes place. Tyrell reveals that what he's going through is not reversible, his genetic code once "assembled" can't be modified but Roy insists, he suggests every option reachable for his intellect provides and gets frustrated to listen Tyrell say he tried all and nothing worked.

-You were made as well as we could make you, Tyrell says.
-But not to last, Roy answers.
-The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and you have burned so very very brightly, Roy.

I wanted to highlight this dialogue because it's uncanny how related it is to one part of the illustration.

In a scene, Roy and Deckard are inside of a building falling apart. Roy, now extremely deteriorated notices his body is starting to fail but his need of hunting Deckard and be able to be free is stronger. Decides to puncture his hand with a nail in an attempt for it to keep responding, even if it is because of the pain. In one of the rooms, doves fly all over the place when they rush through it and Roy grabs one.
The action continues and the chase takes them to the rooftop of the building.

And there's the preamble. Watching these scenes is fascinating because of the gesture achieved by the actors, Harrison Ford shows up as very scared, frighten to be without his gun and facing someone who overwhelms he physicall and Rutger Hauer, the replicant tells his own story with his hands, in one hand he holds humanity, pain, violence, mortality; in the other one, peace, purity, eternity.

-Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? That's what it is to be a slave.

In short, this is a terrific movie that requires paying attention to every single detail, those are the ones that turn it a crowned cult film. Holding this enthusiasm I was eager to watch the new one, Blade Runner 2049 and… that's a story for another day.

I hope you liked it!

hi, it seems an interesting movie will have to look for it and see it. Thank you

It really is. Thank you!

This is a masterpiece, simple as that. I hope they continue with this story, but the results of 2049 are so dissapointing that i jus't don't know if it will ever be possible.

Thank you for sharing!

I tend to agree with you but there's a lot to talk about 2049, I'm planning to do a post about it. Thanks for your comment!
