Murano glass

in #art7 years ago

Murano or Venetian glass, special, because it is made according to the old technologies that arose on the island of Murano, near Venice.

Initially, the glass workshops were located in Venice itself, but everyone knows that in the production of glass, fire is involved, and it threatened the fire of all the wooden city buildings. Therefore already in the 13th century they decided to move all the workshops outside the city limits, and then to a separate island. That's how Murano became the center of the production of Venetian glass.

In Murano, there is a museum of the history of glass production, which is located in the palace of the Palazzo Justinian. In it you will discover many amazing things.
I was amazed that you can not take any sand for the production of Murano glass, but you should use only sand from the famous forest of Fontainebleau, because it is considered to be the cleanest.

During my trip to Italy, I still managed to visit one of the workshops for making such a glass. It is much more interesting to observe the work of a glass blower than to consider finished products in museums.

I could not even imagine what was new, I could not even imagine that there exist besides usual transparent colorless glass and enameled and gilded glass, and a filigree glass inside which special unusual glass threads are introduced, and milk glass obtained by adding tin oxide.

The head was circling from the abundance of different fakes: these are elegant vases, miniature glasses, and amazing shapes of candlesticks. And what are the cheerful figures of animals, glass lampshades from millefiori, consisting of individual flowers or asterisks.

But what really surprised me is that it is made of agate glass, imitating many patterns of agate. I love this stone very much, I could not even imagine that it is possible to transfer all of its patterns in the glass.

And have you seen products made of aventurine glass?
This species was invented by the Murano masters in the 17th century.
Glassblowers managed to add copper to the glass mass, and what effect it turned out, the eye does not take.
A lot of sparkling points, shimmering like a diamond.
