Munich Glyptothek

in #art7 years ago

Never been in the Museum, and knew that in them is so interesting. The word "Glyptotek" in Greek means "store of sculptures." In the Museum collections of Greek and Roman sculpture, but here everything was great presented, some halls are worth.

In Munich the building of the Glyptothek, you will immediately see. It was built in the Northern part of the Königsplatz square by order of crown Prince Ludwig. The Square Königsplatz underground station is very large, and was erected in 1815 by the architect Leo von Klenze on draft of Karl von Fischer.

More than 3 hours we walked through all its halls and still are unable to see much. Here their 13, huge rooms of various shapes: there are rectangular, square, and almost round. And how many interesting exhibits, many mosaics, various busts, that my head is spinning.

I really liked the pediment group over the entrance, dedicated to the goddess Athena. Most of the sculptures depict mythical and historical representatives. Very Regal look to the sculpture of Prometheus, Pericles, and Hephaestus. On each exhibit you can tell a lot of interesting things, though sometimes we had to stop and examine them threw back his head.

Is in the Glyptothek 3 the world famous exhibit, the Greek statues of young men: "Munich Kouros" (from Attica), and "Apollo Chinaski" (from Corinth), and aginity — so styled sculptures from the temple of aphaia, which was located on the island of Aegina. But I more liked this Aphrodite Braschi:

Collection numerous sculptures and mosaics, and reliefs of the Glyptothek, covers the period from 650 BC to the late Roman 400 ad, But the collection is obliged first and foremost to the king Ludwig I, who even as crown Prince in 1804 began to acquire works of ancient sculpture.

All and will not tell you everything here you need to see with your own eyes, and most importantly it should you like. Some tourists of our group just didn't want to go on a tour of the Museum, it was fun to walk around Munich and taste the Bavarian beer.

But if you like to contemplate such art, also I recommend to visit in Central Munich residence of the Dukes of Bavaria of the Wittelsbach dynasty, there is also a great halls of sculptures and paintings...
