An interesting corner in Florence (Italy)

in #art6 years ago

Florence is a city full of interesting corners to see. Not just beatiful ancient buildings and famous statues in the museums, but also alking along the small alleys you can discover very interesting signs of the past!

For example, an awesome ancient fountain in a corner in the via dello Sprone. It's known as Buotalenti's fountain and it was built during the first years of the 1600 using a mannerist style, a style that was really "trendy" during that time in Italy.

You have to know that te word "Sprne" means "angle" in the old italian language and so the fountain (and the alley too) is called also the Sprone's fountain, because, as you can see in the following pics, the fountain is exactly in the angle between the 2 alleys!

This wonderful fountain was built to celebrate the wedding of Cosimo de' Medici and you can see the coat of arm of the famous family De' Medici over the fountain. The De' Medici coat of arms has 6 balls and you can see similar coats of arm all around in all the Tuscany region ^_^

Buontalenty designed many different nice corners in the mannerist style (another wonderful example is the Buontalenti's Grotto that I showed you some days ago and that you can see here).

The next days I will be in Florence for another visit to this beatiful city, so stay tuned fr another "tour" in those interesting corners ^_^

See ya soon
