Dear art enthusiasts,

today the documenta14, one of the most important art-exhibitions of the world, opens it's doors in Kassel (Germany). To get you in the mood, I want to show you some of the artworks from the last documenta, which took place five years ago in 2012.

Today one of my favorite works of the documenta 13:

William Kentridge - The Refusal of Time (2012)

heute öffnet die documenta14, eine der wichtigsten Kunstausstellungen der Welt, wieder ihre Pforten in Kassel. Um euch schon einmal in Stimmung zu bringen, möchte ich euch einige Kunstwerke der letzten documenta aus dem Jahre 2012 zeigen.

Heute eines meiner Lieblingswerke der documenta 13:

William Kentridge - Die Ablehnung der Zeit (2012)

This multimedia artwork had been composed as a 24 minutes long 5-channel projection with megaphones and a breathing machine (elephant). It had been exhibited in the northern wing of Kassels central station.

Bei diesem multimedialen Kunstwerk handelt es sich um eine 24 Minuten lange 5-Kanal-Projektion mit Megafonen und einer Atmungsmaschine (Elefant). Zu sehen war die Arbeit im Norflügel des Kasseler Hauptbahnhofes.

William Kentridge is a South African artist best known for his prints, drawings, and animated films. He's been born 1955 in Johannesburg. He's originated from a jewish family, who

were attorneys who represented people marginalized by the apartheid system.

William Kentridge ist ein südafrikanischer Künstler, der für seine Drucke, Zeichnungen und Animationsfilme bekannt ist. Er wurde 1955 in Johannesburg geboren.

Er stammt aus einer jüdischen Familie, die als Rechtsanwälte Schwarze in Apartheids-Prozessen vertraten.

"Kendridge's recent stage-based work is centered on the ideas of time and modernity. 'The Refusal of Time' (2012) looks at the development of modes for standardizing time in the industrial age of the 1800s, when modern society was shaped through the interconnectedness of standardized clocks. Newton's measured time and Einstein's early-twentieth-century theory of relativity are the antipodes in this play, in whicha range of Kentridge's familar motifs reappear: espresso cans, cylindrical megaphones, wheels, pneumatic clocks, and other mechanical instruments, orchestrated by gigantic projected metronomes."

"Im Mittelpunkt von Kentridges jüngsten Arbeiten stehen die Ideen der Zeit und der Moderne. 'The Refusal of Time' (2012) widmet sich der Entwicklung von Verfahren zur Normierung der Zeit im Industriezeitalter des 19. Jahrhunderts, als die moderne Gesellschaft durch die Vernetzung standardisierter Uhren Gestalt gewann. Newtons Maßzeit und Einsteins Relativitätstheorie aus dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert treffen als Gegensätze aufeinander in diesem Stück, in dem auch zahlreiche aus Kentridges Werk vertraute Motive wieder auftauchen: die Espressokanne, Zylindermegafone, Räder, pneumatische Uhren und andere mechanische Gerätschaften, die von riesigen projizierten Metronomen dirigiert werden."
