Documenta 13 - Thomas Bayrle Airplane/Flugzeug [English/German]
Dear art enthusiasts,
tomorrow the documenta14, one of the most important art-exhibitions of the world, opens it's doors in Kassel (Germany).
To get you in the mood, I want to show you some of the artworks from the last documenta, which took place five years ago in 2012.
We start with:

Um euch schon einmal in Stimmung zu bringen, möchte ich euch einige Kunstwerke der letzten documenta aus dem Jahre 2012 zeigen.

(1982-83)
The huge artwork (8m x 13,4m) had been exhibited in the so called documenta hall, a bulding that had been designed and constructed by german architects Jochem Jourdan und Bernhard Müller between 1989 - 92.
Das riesige Kunstwerk wurde in der sogenannten Documenta Halle gezeigt, ein Gebäude, das von den deutschen Architekten Jochem Jourdan und Bernhard Müller zwischen 1989 - 92 entworfen und realisiert worden ist.
The airplane is a collage made up of thousands of photos. It "pictures the dream of flying, of overlooking the world from above or being capable of spanning the totality of the globe, moving from point to point."

Das Flugzeug ist eine Collage aus tausenden von Fotos. Es "verbildlicht den Traum vom Fliegen, davon, die Welt von oben zu überblicken oden Globus durch Bewegung von einem Punkt zum anderen umspannen zu können."

"At the same time, Bayrle turns the inventory of the rational [...] into an organic web through which many other narratives contradicting the myth of the modern can pass."

"Synchronization and virtuosity" are key to understanding the work presented here. "the infinitely many units that compose the work [...] address an important point: that the individual properties of a biological, chemical, social, economic, mental, or linguistic system cannot be reduced to the sum of its component parts, and that therefore nothing is expendable."

"Synchronizität und Virtuosität" sind Schlüsselbegriffe für ein Verständnis der hier gezeigten Arbeit. Das "aus unendlichen Einheiten [...] zusammengesetzte [Werk] verdeutlicht einen wichtigen Punkt: dass die individuellen Eigenschaften eines biologischen, chemischen, gesellschaftlichen, wirtschaftlichen, gedanklichen oder sprachlichen Systems nicht auf die Summe der Einzelzteile, aus denen es besteht, zurückgeführt werden kann und folglich nichts verzichtbar ist."
