Ritual Annihilation and Rebirth //

"The bullfight has to do with the sacred because there is the threat of death and real death, but it is felt, experienced by others, with others. Imagine a bullfight for you alone."
-Laure, The Sacred
From the prehistoric art in the caves of Lascaux, to Marduk of Mesopotamian religion, Hinduism's worship of Shiva's bull Nandi, the ancient Roman cults of Mithras, and the Golden Calf of Exodus- worship of the sacred bull has had a significant presence in the history of religion and mythology. These examples are far from a complete list. Worship of the sacred bull has been a widespread phenomenon.
The bull represents virility and strength, often the cults and myths surround the bull involve sacrifice and the continuity of life- ritual death and rebirth. Hence the text in my collage. I'll be writing more about the sacred bull in future posts. I just wanted to share my collage for now.
