Acrylic Painting of "KAMBALA" The Famous Buffalo Race in Coastal India

Dear Steemians, 

Today I am posting my acrylic painting of 'KAMBALA' the popular buffalo race in coastal south India.

'KAMBALA'  is an annual festival which involves the traditional buffalo race, a popular sport among the farming community of the coastal Karnataka, India.

Each team comprises of two buffaloes and a farmer who controls the buffaloes. Two teams are made to race down two muddy tracks to determine the fastest team. The racing tracks are about 120 to 160 metres in length and 8 to 12 metres in width. 

 'KAMBALA'  is a festival of speed and swiftness of the buffaloes. These buffaloes are well-fed and cared for throughout the year, just like the professional wrestlers are treated. Some royal families build separate swimming pools for the buffaloes that compete in the races. These buffaloes are well decorated and brought to the event in a grand procession.

The festival has become very popular through the centuries. Today the 'KAMBALA' is organized on a large scale and a huge crowd gathers to enjoy the celebrations.

I have painted the background with posterised blurry effect and given more details to the buffaloes so that the subject stands out.
