I painted this outdoors in Glenorchy, New Zealand on the weekend. It’s was a beautiful view of the river at the base of Mt Alfred leading towards the Humboldt Mountains in the distance.

It was a beautiful clear day and New Zealand’s winter is coming to an end. The willow trees here in the painting have no leaves but their twigs are almost a fiery orange colour. Willow trees are not native to New Zealand and have been introduced, so it’s an interesting contrast between the willows with no leaves and the evergreen native beech trees in the mid ground.

This art work was painted en plein air on an 10” x 12”, canvas panel.

Very nice, I especially enjoy the desaturated purple and lightened mid ground, New Zealand is beautiful

this one is a bit more diffused than your usual ones? or is it just me?
