Plein Air Painting - Tucker Beach, New Zealand
I painted this the other day outdoors en plein air at Tucker Beach next to the Shotover River bear Queenstown, New Zealand. We’d had heavy rain earlier on in the day but the it cleared leaving behind some dramatic clouds and light effects. I had to get outside and paint.
I’m always trying to get out of my comfort zone and try new things with my painting and in this case I wanted to capture the contrast between the light and shadow as a result of the intermittent dark clouds.
Painting outdoors is known as painting en plein air, a French term for painting outdoors.
Tucker Beach, Queenstown, New Zealand, 21cm x 28cm, oil on canvas, painted outdoors en plein air.
I think you captured the muted lighting under the dark clouds well, Samuel :)
Thanks @veryspider :)
