Partouze: The poetry of pornography. 150 drawings and counting
Far from poisoning the mind, pornography shows the deepest truth about sexuality, stripped of romantic veneer.
Camille Paglia
Studio presentation - 2016
All drawings: 210x297mm
Several months ago I started to elaborate a series of erotic drawings. A visual research, in which I challenged myself to translate pornographic images into a more poetic content.
As an artist I find it interesting to do a visual inspection to the aesthetics of what often is dismissed as flat, vulgar, shocking, etc. .. namely pornography. And it is the poet in me who sees a challenge to translate the often impersonal language of porn images and screws with aesthetics.

From hardcore porn to poetry, through the technique and the material (glazing technique with walnut ink).
By using the bolster brown tones I blink an eye to the classic art, at the time of Rembrandt. An academic approach that gives a tremendous strain on the very direct content. The water-like of the glazing technique creates blurry details of which provides scope for personal interpretation.
But the fact remains; I'm starting from pornographic images (which can be found on all kinds of porn sites, where we all surf on massively!) and that basic content always remains shining through in the drawings. Sex is sex, and she has many forms. But let it be clear that there's no intention in; ' porn for porn. ' Just as art for art's sake would not add value on the immense existing bulk.
Finally, everyone can think of it what he/she wants, that doesn't have the least affect on my pursuits. Since this is a serious research where I'm working on intensively and driven. Every day! With a focus, intensity, passion and enthusiasm as I would approach any other subject.
So the only thing I wish is that the viewer, in addition to the sexual content, also has an eye for how the images are formed. Composition, lines, depth, form, technique, density, material, and so on. Because finally, the drawings are just what they are ... drawings. You are the content yourself!
One last thought...
I am aware that this kind of work just can't be shown and shared anywhere. But the opposite is also true, by our narrow-minded dealing with sexuality, there is also little or no place where this kind of studies will be shown and exchanged. Must we return to the erotic cabinets of the years 1700? May we only experience sexuality secretly when it's incorporated in the lid of a cigar box?
I am sincerely asking!

Well, mate. That's a collection of porn I approve right there. That's an art subject most fear to touch and your art truly is "eye-catching"--great art style and use of medium. Looking at the art as a whole 100-pieces piece attracts even greater admiration.
You bring new meaning to "Draw me like one of your French girls."
Unicorn Jenoodle gives a big approval while dimming the screen.
love it
usually , I am not a big fan of any kind of porn but this collection really caught my interest . " Pursuit and seduction are the essence of sexuality. It's part of the sizzle."- Camille Paglia
