Malahide Beach Plein Air Painting 🎨☘ - ART/PAINTING, Dublin, Ireland
Painting In Malahide, Ireland
I started the day by enjoying the rare bit of Irish sun as I ate my breakfast. I then packed my bag, headed out the door and walked into central Dún Laoghaire, where I caught the train to Malahide. I got off the train, headed over to tourist information, and then began my walk towards the medieval Malahide Castle. I first enjoyed the castle gardens, and I really wanted to paint so much there but I didn’t know how much time I had. So I took the tour, and was actually surprised that it was pretty good. I learned about the fascinating history of this medieval castle, and all about the Talbot family who owned it for hundreds of years, and how throughout the centuries, the castle was used as a meeting place for European nobility. I also learned that it is considered to be one of the most haunted places in Ireland, if you believe in that. It is a really interesting place to visit if you go to Dublin.
After Malahide Castle I headed back into Malahide town and straight to Malahide beach, where i would have to race against time to get this little plein air painting finished before my train back to central Dublin to meet up again with the fam. This was the result!
Above image; The early stages to the plein air painting on location on Malahide Beach in Dublin, Ireland. I first sketch out the composition, and then begin laying in the paint, usually starting with the darkest areas first.
Above image; Here are some photos of the area I painted in. Not the warmest day, but there was no rain and a little bit of sun would appear.
Above image; As you can see, there wasn't many people around either, which was nice.

Both of these paintings were painted with watercolour & gouache.
