How to draw and color an autumn pumpkin - Step-by-step tutorial!
Hey guys! I'm back with another picture heavy art tutorial!
Today I will show you how to draw and color/shade a pumpkin.
Fall is in the air in the northern hemisphere, and nothing makes the fall statement more, than a bright orange pumpkin.
Let's get started!
What you will need:
- Paper (the size is up to you)
- Pencil of your choice for sketching the basic shape
- Fine tip outlining marker - I am using a 0.5mm
- A coloring media- I will be using colored pencils
- White gel pen (optional)
- Positivity
Step 1: Ok, just like every other drawing tutorial in the world, we are going to start off with three simple horizontal ovals.
Step 2: Now we'll use the smallest oval as the base of the stem, like so.
Step 3: Now we'll draw another oval, this time vertical. This will be the first "lobe" of the pumpkin body.
Step 4: Now we'll draw two more "lobes", one on each side of the first one. Secret #1: The first three lobes need to overlap the base of the stem for a 3D look.
Step 5: Now we throw on two more lobes. Secret #2: Notice how the bottom of the lobes are staggered and not in the exact plane.
Step 6: Add the last four lobes on the back of the pumpkin like so.
Step 7: Outline picture with a fine tip marker or pen and erase the pencil lines.
Step 8: Now for affect, we will add some lines to show texture.
COLORING
Step 1: Start out with the lightest shade green you have for the stem.
Step 2: Now envision where the light is hitting the stem and fill in the shadowed areas with a darker green.
Step 3: Aaaaand one more time with a darker shade of green in the area that would be the most shadowed.
Step 4: Now we add some light brown and dark brown for depth. Why? Well, because what happens to a pumpkin after it is picked? The stem begins to dry out and die.
Step 5: Now for the orange part. Just like the stem, it is best to start out with the lightest shade of orange that you have.
Step 6: Gradually add darker and darker oranges in the shaded areas. I also choose to add some yellow in the areas that I imagined light was hitting.
If you made it this far, congratulations! You are finished! The only thing that I added in this picture was white highlights with a white gel pen, which I feel gave it a bit more depth.
There you have it! An autumn pumpkin. It's really simple to do! Try it out, you will see just how easy it is.
Ok, did you try it? Post it in the comments! I'm waiting!
Well done! good work
