Bugs: Proof the Chinese Can Make Bad American Horror Films -- Spoilers

in #art8 years ago (edited)

It's always interesting, for me at least, to watch horror movies from another country. Concepts of ghosts and the afterlife are different. Different religions bring different cosmologies as well. And then, you see something that just looks absolutely carbon copied. Bugs is one of those films, and the 1970s was filled with movies like this. Rats and Ants, for example. What is interesting though, about this really bad film is how it seemingly nails all the cheesy American horror tropes.

Okay, so start with malicious science accidentally getting released.

Add a young couple going to a vacation resort.

Include a lot of gratuitous T&A.

Include lots of badly acted screaming.

Include some really bad CGI.

Include a black guy that doesn't live to the end of the movie.

Include a chainsaw somewhere.

Then, cover a girl with blood or goo. In this case, goo.

Tease a happy ending.

And then go for your shocking twist!

I am choosing to believe that this movie was deliberately made to be bad. Almost as if the director actually likes bad, cheesy American horror films and actively tried to mimic one.
