The Pug Portrait Challenge
11x17 in. Charcoal on Charcoal Paper
materials used: Faber Castle Hard Charcoal Pencil / Pencil for outlining, kneaded/ gum eraser/ empty ballpen/ soft brush for smudging.
(10-31 - 11-01 - 2017)
I was trilled receiving this project, apparently my first time for a dog with a parent portrait as a commission and I have surprised myself to have this done in 2 days. Well the dog made me excited cause yeah, I'm a dog 🐶 lover. ❤
So here are the photos in progress 😆 :
(camera used Ipad Mini 1)
Human First. I've drawn the upper part first so the lower part of the paper is clear and I've got nothing to smudge on.
I always start on eyes 👀, it is very important to really focus on them, so at first look you'll know they are them. 😲
Tip: use kneaded eraser for highlighting.
Zooming in. For dog's fur, I used empty ball pen to leave white lines/ fur strands they wont be cover up by the charcoal pencil.
I really love the face of this dog, really a challenge for me. 😻 I uploaded this on my Instagram.
I was too excited to finished and I did! I was really amazed by myself. haha.. love the wrinkles on the shirt.
BIG SMILE cause I am super happy with the result.
closer look to the dog 🐶.
and finally the reference photo. Asti and his master.
