The babies have gray markings, a black beak and aren't as sleek looking as their parents. They will get their adult feathers after their first molt, which is around 9 months. However they are sexually mature around 3 months. I will have to remove the babies before they are breeding age because the males fight and incest produces sick babies.
I just cleaned their cage. I usually clean the bird cage once a week. However, now there are 3 more finches flying around, eating and pooping all day long!
There is one baby left in the nest. It was the smallest of the 3, I suspect the littlest one was the last one to hatch. The nest is a mess, full of poop! I'll have to throw it away. I found out providing a nest stimulates their nesting instincts. The little ones are going back to the pet store where I bought their parents. Thank you pet store! Zebra Finch will lay 3 or more clutches a year and I am going to avoid that, I don't need a bunch of finches, they poop too much!

They are friendly non aggressive birds that get along with other species like my Mourning Dove.

My sister has finches and she adores them. She talks about the pooping as well, lol. 😄
