Jumping Spider ~ Art by Red Dust

Male Habronattus virgulatus Jumping Spider

I need to start working in prisma-colored pencils, I love the detail the medium catches with micro-photography and insects. I'm definitely going to draw more jumping spiders.

I collected bugs as a child, I was fearless and no one ever bit me. I also loved snakes, I used to collect Garter Snakes, a Harmless snake from the West Coast of Oregon.

I hope I caught the beauty I see so you can see the intelligence and personality in this tiny little spiders. They are about 2mm long, something like 1/4 to 1/8 of an inch long.

11 x 14, drawing pencil, Prisma-colored pencil.

Hey reddust. I love your work it is fascinating. However I do not like spiders haha. I am a big boy and when I was little I letted them walk over my hands but no more... well done

brilliant piece of work :)

I love it too @jeffjagoe, thank you <3

I have a phobia of spiders and this drawing sends shivers down my neck, but it is also beautiful! 💡

@fleur just look at the elegance and beauty of their form and your fear will eventually go away. See the beauty and let your fear go!

Wow it looks so real! I love it!

I like to try and capture the real in an image. Right now I am trying to let that go with my butterfly series.

oolala, nice!

Another one of my favorites by you, the detail is immense! love it.

@jonjon1, yeah, it's all about the details. That's why I love and hate doing cars...it's so hard. the spider was very easy, Nature is so elegant with her designs.

I tried to draw cars when i was a kid but was terrible at proportions and angles lol. Very true, the older i get, the more detail and elegance i see everywhere in nature.

That's great! I love jumpers!

@tarotbyfergus, me too, those little eyes hold an intelligence that feels very aware of me ...

Wow! J'adore ton dessin!

Wow! I love your drawing! This spider is beautiful and fascinating! My children and I collect the insects and we are disappointed not to be able to collect the spiders since it does not keep their shape and color while drying ... but your drawing made me think that we could take photos of them instead !!!! It's a little ridiculous but I never thought of it before today !! :-) Thanks for this inspiring and beautiful sharing !!!

Yeah, spiders you will have to inject rubber or something in their bodies so their exoskeleton won't collapse after their internal fluids dry up....That was my first thought anyway, I don't know what you would use though...kind like the rubber they inject in the frogs I had to dissect in my high school labs.

It is nicer to take photos...I love micro-photographs, love, love, love them. Thank you @nature.sauvage.

Very cool original creation.

Thank you @woodywood143, I'm copying the master artist...Nature!

@reddust, really nice drawing.

What struck me as interesting was that looking at your drawing makes me imagine some strange creature from another planet... as a photo, I "know" it's a spider, but in the transition to drawing... it feels more like I am looking at the cover art of a science fiction book; the spider somehow becomes more "alien" looking. Don't know if that makes sense...

Either way, a great drawing!

Alien is right, these little creatures are mad smart little hunters. We humans have been taught we are the smartest creatures on this planet. However bugs are living space suits with their exoskeleton, their strength and their ability to adapt to a changing environment. Can you imagine how big a rain drop is to a little 1/4 inch spider? When I was a kid I like to imagine what I would do if I was caught in a rainstorm if I was as small as the little bugs I loved to watch. They live in a very different world than we do....just imagine ;-)
