The Wisdom That Knows What Is Not Self
I've been drawing and painting dragons since I was a child. This is my favorite painting. Finished back in 1997. I didn't sign my paintings back then. My daughter just told me after I pulled this painting from storage, I need to sign and date this piece.
This Dragon is female, she is the last of her kind, still very young and inexperienced. She is guarding the eyes of her clans elder dragons, which contain the wisdom of their lifetime. Dragons can live thousands of human lifetimes before they pass away.

There Are Positive Dragons And Negative Dragons (Nagas).
"In Himalayan Buddhism, these water nagas are keepers of secret books of wisdom. They can be generous, but they also have the ability to let loose diseases and epidemics. They are propitiated with suitable offerings. " Nagas can bring rain and love water, war and pollution makes them very angry, which can unleash their power to manifest disease, drought, and famine.
Western Dragon Mythology
"In the west, the dragon is an evil beast. There are many myths and legends of dragon slayers such as Hercules and Seguird."
The real Dragon is you, your ego, by Joseph Campbell

Thank you @mars9🌸
excellent drawing, excellent post @reddust!
@natureofbeing, thank you, some of my favorite studies ....anicca, anatta, dukkha and I didn't know dragons were tied to the ego through myth, the slaying of a dragon is destruction of clinging to what is not self, as Joseph Campbell said, the ego!

Nice work. Dragons have so many different traditions in art. It is interesting that there are different mythos. Cudos!
