Work Still in Progress - Layer one of oil almost complete.

Moonshine 2.5.jpg

It's big enough a piece that I can focus on one area at a time, and in a sense save drying time for oils. It can take up to a week depending on humidity and temperature and how thick I've laid it on and all that, so moving from spot to spot feels more efficient by day.

The only parts that haven't received their first layer of oil yet are the wings of the vervet on the top right, some small spots on the elephants, and the black bits in behind everything. I will have to wait a day or two after I finish those bits today. There are still lots of details to put into the elephants' skins, the vervets' wings, hands, all over. I also need to add the teacups back in at some point, the sugar cubes, the lighter, and, I've decided, little sprigs of wormwood all through the black background.

Since looking through the Frida Kalho book that I bought, I've had images of her work in my head. The way her backgrounds are often a solid wall of foliage is in my mind. That, and the loneliness she plants into the bedrooms she depicted. Lonely, emptiness. Very powerful imagery.

The colour contrast is working out perfectly. I'm using a couple kinds of green, and a few different shades of pink, so I may need to do spot corrections for symmetry. Not too much, though. I'll give y'all another update on this one in a couple days.

I'm truly amazed with both colour choice and contrast. Great job!
