The Fords.

LetThemEatCrack.jpg

This was a portrait I did of Rob Ford as Marie-Antoinette, in 'Let Them Eat Crack'. He was Toronto's famous crack-smoking mayor some years back, who is now deceased to cancer. This piece has been hiding away in storage, but it should have a sibling sometime.

We went to the legislative gallery yesterday morning. We made it all the way to the metal detectors before it was announced to us that the speaker inside was kicking the public out for the day. We overheard from a couple people, the civil disobedience was mostly coughing, and largely the elderly, four of whom were led away in handcuffs. The speaker didn't like the way the public was coughing, and so kicked them all out.

Subsequently, the NDP, official opposition party, slammed their desks and howled until one by one they were also sent out of the room for the day. It was a protest by the people against this unconstitutional Notwithstanding Clause, which is only the first of many times Ford and his party are likely to use it. This time, to settle a score against Toronto, who rejected him. Next time? Who knows. Maybe to suspend women's rights, gay rights, or immigration policies. I guess we'll see.

There's something very nazi about this. I wish we could secede from the province.

This painting is so realistic I love it. Her face is so lifelike.
