NEW PAINTING! "Play With Us"
Months and months ago, I was online, reading interviews with gallery curators and sales people. One of the questions was about what sort of art moved. The answer was vague, as expected, because it's fickle, but she mentioned in an afterthought that paintings of cats always seemed to sell quicker. From that, I decided to experiment.
I asked for a list of iconic movie scenes from my friends, so that I could replace the characters with cats. I ended up being overwhelmed by suggestions. People really love making games, it's something I love about people. But then I got a couple suggestions together that ended up inspiring something totally else:
Citizen Kane and King Kong came together, and my mind fused them into the idea of Citizen Kong.
After that, I started the scene from the Shining, but I'd lost too much steam, and ended up putting the piece aside for months.
Then Bilbo came into our lives, randomly in the hallway. She's been my muse for a good three months now. I have almost three paintings of her. The third is not too far from finished. The first two:
and
And so on, and after the third one is finished, I'm sure I'll have more ideas.
And then, maybe it was already a week ago, or nearly a week - a second cat appeared in the hallway:
It was a really sweet cat, but Bilbo no being spayed yet, I didn't want to take any undue risks with this new one. We called a friend from upstairs who agreed to hold onto it until either its person could be found, or a new person to take it. After posting this photo, a friend suggested that my hallways reminded them of the Shining. I joked that we were hiring for twins, and she countered that I should paint that scene, but with cats. She had no idea I'd already started that piece months ago.
So I carried it out. I love that it has a bit of backstory now. Hopefully I can find that list of iconic scenes again.
Here're the progress shots of this one.

I love the cat twins, they are adorable and creepy at the same time:):)
My thoughts exactly!
Thank you, @georgeboya! It's kind of true to how cats are in general. Very cute, but always plotting! You can see it in their eyes. :D
I like your painting, but I need to say that remind me the movie The Shinning which gave me a little fear hahahaha!
Thanks for sharing!
Lol! Thank you! It IS based on the Shining. Thanks for looking! :)
The cat twins <3
If they asked me to play with them I wouldn't hesitate a second..
Anyhow I absolutely adore your artwork, the idea is so original and creative it deserves to be seen by more people. If you ever get to hold your own huge art exhibit, send me an invite! Hats of to you :D
Thanks so much, @ivanm7! I really appreciate that. I don't have any exhibits booked this year yet, but I'd be happy to let you know when I do! :D

This is amazing @rachelsvparry I love this idea. And the citizen kong is genius. I miss our cat, who also came to us not we getting her, I suppose one day another cat will just come into our lives.
I can't wait to see more cat/movie idea paintings!
Thank you so much, @donnadavisart! :D
I think it's true what they say, that our furry friends pick us. :D
Thank you! I strive to not disappoint! :D

It's a lot of fun to see cats dressed like girls :) It's a new perspective that I've never though of :)
I like their dresses and that they are holding hands. It's so adorable.
It's a very good painting! Thank you for sharing and congratulations on your curie vote!
Thanks so much, @delishtreats! :D
Rachel, I think cats are a motif for you, I can see the pattern of their emergence in your life and arts :D I hope you will be able to find someone to look after the new cat, but I love this painting of the twin cat girls very much... how it came to be, how it was resting for a long time, and now, it is finally finished <3
AAH! I love your posts :) You're always telling us about your life so openly :D
Thank you, @veryspider! They really do seem to be my source of inspiration these days! So far, Bilbo seems to be adjusting well, if a little bit naughty and rambunctious. We're learning better habits to put breakable things away! Lol.
I think art is better with a story. In the end, it's up to the people who are looking to decide what they think, but there's more to consider when you give a back story. The same with our own lives! Finding connections with other people is harder for people who are very private, I imagine. I like to share, and I love that you enjoy it! :D
Incredible talent!! you've earned a new follower for sure. WOW! I love bespoke art like yours.
Thank you so much, @jayabaranwal! I'm glad you love it! I love making social and pop-culture related artworks. It's fun! Thank you for the follow! :D
Cats with many professions. You give many sides to life in your drawing. But sometimes it looks terrible to see her sitting like watching us all day
It's confrontational! That can be uncomfortable. It's a neat little bit of art history, in fact! Manet's Olympia was considered very scandalous, not just because it depicted a nude courtesan awaiting a client, but because her eyes are looking straight into the eyes of the viewer, putting them on the spot.
