Nesting - Into Halloween

in #art10 years ago

This piece is one of my oldest that I have left, of my first year back to painting. It was one of my best examples of technical skill for a while, but now I'm a bit more polished. I still love it as one of my own babies.

Called Nesting, of course, because I painted the eyes as eggs in tiny nests, but also, the face itself is pulling itself forward from a wall of fabric, like in a paranormal movie. Adding to that, the picture I used for most of my referencing was of the magazine/poster cover Les Miserable advert. The picture of young Cosette.

I saw the movie remake of the musical with my previous partner. We laughed and laughed. Afterward. About the preposterous main issue. SPOILER ALERT. Guy steals bread to feed a starving kid. He is arrested and sent to jail for something like a decade. Upon release, he breaks parole and finds himself running from the most tenacious parole officer that ever lived. At the end of it all, the parole officer realizes he's wasted his entire life (and probably enough tax dollars to buy thousands of loaves of bread) and commits suicide by jumping off a bridge.

Meanwhile, the civil war is raging, but it only gets like one song of coverage in the plot. The rest of it is the main guy either fleeing the law for breaking parole for bread thievery, or him feeling shame at being an outlaw. On his death bed, he admits to her he was a wanted bread felon, and she's all like; 'Whatever, dad'.

Everyone cries, especially Anne Hathaway. Forever.

Anyway, here's my painting. I hope it's more inspiring than my spoiler of Les Mis.
