Update on Bear Sculpture

Here's my last post about the bear sculpture.

The bear has been getting his coat of bondo - over the top of his fiberglass.  Here are some photos from a few days ago and from earlier today.  I will be getting possession of it tomorrow, and will begin adding more details & texture and then will be painting it.  The artist shown in these photos has carved it (although I carved the veggies that go around the large pumpkin) and he has fiberglassed it and bondo-ed it.  He will now be working on a different bear cub while I finish this one.  There are 6 of us working on these 5 bear cub sculptures.  They are each in honor of different local entities around town.  This one is in honor of the local food bank.

Applying the bondo.  He has already sanded part of the bondo that was already applied.

Del showed me how he mixes the bondo, resin, and hardener together.

He showed me how you can get different textures with the bondo - depending on how runny it is, and that once it starts to harden up you can go back in with the brush and change the texture a little bit.

Del has become attached to this bear and said he doesn't want to let it go!  (cute!)

Here are some photos from today.  Del has almost finished sanding the bondo.  He is sanding off some of the fur texture that he created by adding peat moss to the bondo mixture.

I will be elongating the snout & adding detail to the nose, adding eyes, adding more/different fur texture and having the fur texture coming over the top of his overalls.  I will be adding the overalls fasteners, pockets, etc...  claws, stems on all the vegetables and adding texture to the pumpkin stems.

More to come!  Stay tuned...
